Will performs with Moroccan master singer and dancer Hassan Hakmoun and his band at Central Park Summerstage, for the "New York World Festival - Sounds of the Mediterranean", which will celebrate the music of the Mediterranean and North Africa in this special day of performance and education. They will perform Moroccan Gnawa (Gnaoua), a style of Moroccan devotional music used in all-night healing trance ceremonies. There are 5 diverse acts playing from 3pm to 7pm, and Hassan will also be giving a workshop from approx. 1:30pm - 2:15pm.

Explore the sonic history of traditional drumming with the birth of technology. Drums can be used as the brain of sound, ambiance, story-telling, and connection to spirits. The class will take a personal look at rhythm, sound, frequency and how the history and future of drumming are interlaced...

Will Calhoun was introduced to the international music scene as the hard-driving drummer of the multi-platinum recording group LIVING COLOUR. Performing with the Gnawa masters in Morocco, Aboriginal elders in the Out-Back of Australia, and Punta rock musicians in Belize, Will has created his own percussive combination of electronics and acoustic-ancestral grooves.
