The "Mos Def Big Band" will appear at New York City's Delacorte Theater in Central Park as part of the "Joe's Pub In The Park" concert series. Drawing upon material from the likes of Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Gil-Scott Heron, Beyonce and original compositions, Mos Def will lead a band featuring some of the leading names in jazz, under the musical direction of Will Calhoun, as they explode the boundaries between jazz, soul and hip-hop. Opening act is The Spirit Music Sextet featuring Meshell Ndegeocello.

Will Calhoun will be performing at the Blue Note with the Elvin Jones Jazz Machine band, as part of a tribute to the late, great Elvin Jones, the most influential drummer for Will. The tribute runs from 6/24-6/27, and there will be many special guests and performances throughout. Will will be featured as the main drummer on Friday night, and will also be appearing as a guest on Thursday night.

"Moroccan Exteriors" - a photo exhibition by Will Calhoun. The show will contain music and photographs taken by Will Calhoun during his 2-week personal journey through the deserts of Morocco. He will also perform a brief solo ambient percussion performance for the opening each night. Exhibition hours will be 7pm - 10pm daily.

Description: Will Calhoun will display his research and experience in Rock-n-Roll, Hip-Hop, Jazz, drum-n-bass, Funk, Dub, Reggae, Ambient, and other World music styles, with electronic and acoustic interpretations, combining "the Bush" with "the Street".
Will Calhoun is best known for his ground breaking percussion concepts and musical diversity with artists such as Living Colour, Wayne Shorter, Pharaoh Sanders, Mick Jagger, B.B.King, Jaco Pastorious, Nana Vasconcellos, Herb Alpert, and recently recording and producing tracks for MOS DEF.
Will has spent the past few years researching drumming and rhythm with Master Tribal leaders in Central and South America, Morocco(Gnawa Masters), and the Out Back of Australia. "This research allows me to understand the History of certain grooves......while lacing these grooves with electronic timbres.

Will Calhoun was introduced to the international music scene as the hard-driving drummer of the multi-platinum recording group LIVING COLOUR. Performing with the Gnawa masters in Morocco, Aboriginal elders in the Out-Back of Australia, and Punta rock musicians in Belize, Will has created his own percussive combination of electronics and acoustic-ancestral grooves.
